This is my last article for 2009. I have two computers connected to a router, they all shared same internet connection. One day, router blocked the internet without no warning.

I tried to re-setup ICS Wizard in router and main network adapters in router and client computers, Network Connections > right-clicked Local Area Connection, Properties > Internet Protocol > Properties, type the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway. Note: only router has empty Default Gateway

FYI, Local Area Connection use local IP address, its Subnet Mask and local Default Gateway. You can use range 192.168.0.1 – 192.168.0.255 or 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.255.

Microsoft Documentations tells you to use range 192.168.0.1 – 192.168.0.255, because ICS Wizard likely to setup that range.
You can read how to setup ICS or in short term, Internet Sharing here. My experience below could be used for both range of IPs

I won’t explain ICS Wizard again, because that isn’t subject of the article. This article for you who have problems with Internet Sharing, which you did setup and did work well before problem arise.

Re-setup didn’t help. I concluded it must be something unrelated with Network that may blocked the internet sharing. That’s virus or worm. I scanned all three computers using Avira AntiVir Personal. No virus or worm in scan results. Then I realized the Avira was going to be expired. I removed Avira from all computers. I did scan the computers, no need to worry about virus and worm. Of course, before you remove Avira, you should check quarantine folder, because some anti-virus could release them sometimes. Delete whatever in quarantine folder

I also did reset IE, Internet Explorer controlled Internet Online/Offline behavior when no setup proxy in Firefox, Chrome, Opera or other browsers, even Yahoo Messenger affected by IE. Go to Tools on Menu bar > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset Internet Explorer Settings > Reset, follow instructions on the screen

Next, I ran a set of commands to clear and flush WinSock (run this on router and clients),
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset reset.log
netsh winsock reset catalog
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

Press enter after each command.

Reboot the computers and see if that makes a difference if not then it could either be a corrupt registry file or firewall problem (If that’s registry, i suggest to re-install Win XP. If that’s firewall, disable WinXP firewall)

After reboot, i did setup router and client computers IP Addresses, Subnet Masks and Default Gateways. Default Gateway IPs in clients must use Router IP Address (router doesn’t have Default Gateway)

Now, last but important setup DNS to router IP Address
After everything okay, you can install Avira back again

It’s a best buy phone with features like 3G/HSDPA, 2 MP camera and GPS. Battery/Power is cons of the phone besides WiFi. Although it’s a 1300 mAh battery, it runs out in one day using 3G. Here’s the tips:
1. Charge battery 3-4 hours after the battery status shows “Fully Charged”. The battery capacity is 1300 mAh, apparently it’s a quite big capacity, need longer charging
2. Use 3G only if you need it, turn it off when you don’t need it. Go to Settings, Phones, All Calls, Band Selection, GSM900/1800 to turn 3G off or Auto to turn 3G on

You turn macbook on after the battery is full, resume your download and find out that there’s no resume command when you open Safari.

It sucks when it’s happening in the middle of big files download.
Don’t get angry too soon.
Clear you download window but don’t reset Safari.
You may not know Safari saved all downloads in download directory.
Open download directory, find Safari icon with loading bar on it. That shows that file is Resume Download file from Safari. Click it twice, Safari download window pop up ..bingo! Your download back on

It’s very easy, when you are going to remote, don’t change the Remote Computer Sound option, you can find it here Options >> Local Resources>Remote Computer Sound, keep the Remote Computer Sound Option to Leave at Remote Computer.

With this option, you retain your Windows audio setting, including Recording Option. Skype need that to make it work

But if you change to Bring to This Computer, your Windows Remote Desktop will reset your Windows audio setting to RDP audio (stream your Remote Computer audio to another computer) and leave Recording Option to blank

Plugged you headset to Remote Computer, you can skype from Remote Computer when you are working with another computer.

You want to participate with open source community like WordPress or Google Code. Most of them use Subversion. Subversion is used to maintain current and historical versions of files such as source code, web pages, and documentation .That’s why you may need a Subversion client to access Subversion server.

Access Subversion is easy,it’s like using Window Explorer.
There are many subversion clients out there, i won’t discuss all of them, only one, TortoiseSVN

Why do i like TortoiseSVN? because it’s mini, quick and easy to use.
Download the TortoiseSVN and install it to your computer.
You’ll get TortoiseSVN menu on desktop > right-click

A shortcut to use TortoiseSVN for accesing Subversion hosted server like WordPress or Google Code by Repo Browser (TortoiseSVN -> Repo Browser). Repo Browser is like a mini version of Windows Explorer

When you open Repo Browser you’ll ask to input your URL, that’s an URL of your Repository, where your files were saved in Subversion. Mostly use this address, example http://www.yourweb.com/yourprogram/

Once you entered the Subversion repository, you can add, edit, delete files in that repository. Add a file to Subversion with Repo Browser is easy, in left window you’ll get your address and its directories. Just right-click the trunk directory, choose add file, just like Windows-browse and upload.

Repo Browser doesn’t have menu bar, just right-click the directory, pop-up the menu or command for Subversion

I think so too, here is how to hide it, login to MyBlogLog using your Yahoo ID, go to My Account settings, go to Services tab, look for Yahoo Updates in Services List, if Yahoo Updates disabled-don’t change it, but if Yahoo Updates enabled, you can control it by click Manage-next to enabled/disabled field.

It will open Yahoo! Profiles, Manage My Updates page. For first time user, click show All Yahoo Sources, look for MyBlogLog, change from anyone to no one. After that, everytime login to Yahoo! Profile, you’ll get all the updates without click All Yahoo Sources.

Subversion is an open-source revision control system. It is used to maintain current and historical versions of files such as source code, web pages, and documentation. You can read the description from Wikipedia page.

How to install Subversion on Apache and Windows platform? Here’s how?
1. Install Apache or LAMP package. I wont tell you much about this, assuming that you already know about Apache or LAMP.
2. Download Windows binaries from Subversion site. Choose a version suitable with your Apache. You can download the latest version (current version is 1.5), but also download a previous version (1.4.6). Why do I need two version? I installed Subversion 1.5, got a problem when turned on Apache. Apparently, apache modules in Subversion 1.5 not compatible with Apache 2.2 (I’m using Apache 2.2), but if your Apache is version 2.2.9 or higher you don’t need Subversion 1.4.6.
I choose to download .zip package file, not the installer (.exe) file.
3. Extract Subversion 1.5 zip package file , and put the Subversion extracted from zip to a directory your choice (usually C:\Program Files)
4. Now extract Subversion 1.4.6 zip package file, donot put Subversion 1.4.6 into Subversion 1.5, it will be better if you extract Subversion 1.4.6 to temporary directory. Browse through Subversion 1.4.6 directory and find the files /bin/mod_dav_svn.so and mod_authz_svn.so. Copy these files to the Apache modules directory (usually C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\modules). You can delete Subversion 1.4.6 now.
5. Copy the file /bin/libdb*.dll and /bin/intl3_svn.dll from the Subversion (version 1.5) directory to the Apache bin directory
6. Open and Edit Apache’s configuration file (usually C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\conf\httpd.conf) with a text editor such as Notepad and make the following changes:
find Apache’s module section,
Uncomment (remove the ‘#’ mark) the following lines:

#LoadModule dav_fs_module modules/mod_dav_fs.so
#LoadModule dav_module modules/mod_dav.so

Add the following two lines to the end of the LoadModule section.

LoadModule dav_svn_module modules/mod_dav_svn.so
LoadModule authz_svn_module modules/mod_authz_svn.so

7. Need to create passwd file for Apache, this is useful if you are going to show authentication when someone access your Subversion. Just open MS-DOS command (cmd) from Start Menu > Accessories > Command Prompt or Start Menu > Run > cmd. Change to the apache2 folder (usually C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2) and create the file by entering :

bin\htpasswd -c passwd <username>

8. Add Subversion 1.5 directory to Windows Enviroment Variable, so you can run Subversion command from MS-DOS command. Open System Properties in Control Panel, Go To Advanced Tab, Go To Enviroment Variable, Find PATH inside System Variables, choose Edit Button, add full path of Subversion directory into the list.
9. Don’t close/exit from MS-DOS command. Create Subversion Repo directory, run this :
svnadmin create [full path of a directory where you put SVN repositories in Apache-usually home or www/name of directory] e.g

svnadmin create C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\www\svn

10. Back to Apache’s httpd.conf file. Add these to the end of config file :

<Location /svn>
DAV svn
SVNListParentPath on
SVNParentPath "full path of a directory where you put SVN repositories in Apache-usually home or www"
AuthType Basic
AuthName "Subversion Repositories"
AuthUserFile passwd
Require valid-user
</Location>

Save httpd.conf and run Apache.

I bought a Nintendo Wii, a Japanese Wii, also bought a a few games, one of them Wild Earth, African Safari. I don’t understand japanese, so when i played Wild Earth, i didn’t know the game installed installed firmware from its disc. Wild Earth is an US Version game. I didn’t know the installation cause conflict later on. A few days later, i explored Wii and found my Wii number, hit a wrong button (REGISTER) on screen, an Opera error appeared. I thought it was connection problem. I went to Wii Settings, and saw an Opera error as well. Fortunate for me, the error was Semi-Brick. I can play games, other Wii functions still work.

What is Wii Semi-Brick?. Guys from hackmii.com explain it, the result of installing updated System Menus from discs that came from other regions. Semi-brick displays an Opera error message, allows you to boot the system to the main menu, and play games, etc. However, you can’t get into the Settings menu (to enable WiFi, update the software, etc), because when you do, you are presented an Opera error message. You can read their explanation here

Hackmii find a way to fix Wii Semi-brick, launch their hack. The fix is simple. Download the latest version of the system menu for your Wii Region. Mine is a Japanese Wii, i just downloaded JAP (number 1 file). Extract file, it’s a RAR file. You’ll see ISO (an image file). Prepare DVD-R disc. I use GT-PRO DVD-R disc. Burn an image file to DVD Disc using Nero Express (Most people on Hackmii suggested imgburn), Speed 4x.

Insert DVD-R disc into Wii, hit Disc Menu on screen (top left) then follow the instructions.
My Wii settings is back !

I want to thank you to Hackmii for fixing my Wii Semi-Brick!
